This time we're going to learn about tenses. Not just 2 or 3 tenses, but all 16 types of tenses
- Present Tenses
a. Simple Present Tense (subject + verb (s/es for third person))
Is a verb tense that talks about what happens habitually or continually.
b. Present Continuous Tense (subject + is/am/are + present participle)
Used to describe an action happening now, or an ongoing action, also can be used to talk about something that will happen in the future.
c. Present Perfect Tense (subject + has/have + past participle)
Is used to emphasize the duration of an action that occured in a time period before now.
d. Present Perfect Continuous Tense (subject + have been + present participle + time reference)
Is used for actions that have been going on since the past and end up until the present, also can be used to refer to actions that are still in progress, but still haven't been finished. - Past Tenses
a. Simple Past Tense (subject + V2)
Is used to describe actions that occured in the past, which were completed and are not happening currently.
b. Past Continuous Tense (subject + was/were + present participle)
Is used to talk about unfinished period of time, also can refer to a specific action that was happening at specific point in time.
c. Past Perfect Tense (Subject + had + past participle)
Is used to describe an action that was completed at some point in the past.
d. Past Perfect Continuous Tense (Subject + had been + present participle + time reference)
Is used to express an action that started in the past and continued up until another point in the past. - Future Tenses
a. Simple Future Tense (subject + will/shall + main verb) (subject + is/am/are + going to + verb)
Is used to describe things that haven't happened yet.
b. Future Continuous Tense (subject + will be + present participle)
Is used to express the idea that action will be in progress at some time in the future.
c. Future Perfect Tense (subject + will have + past participle)
Indicates an action or event that will be completed by some point in the future.
d. Future Perfect Continuous Tense (subject + will have been + present participle + time reference)
Is used to emphasize an action that will be in progress up until another point in time in the future.
e. Past Future Tense (subject + would + main verb)
Expresses the idea that an action will occur later in time.
f. Past Future Continuous Tense (subject + would/should be + present participle)
Is used to indicate continuous or habitual action in the past that was interrupted by another later action.
g. Past Future Perfect Tense (subject + should/would have + past participle)
Used to express actions that will happen in the future before something in the past.
h. Past Future Perfect Continuous Tense (subject + would have been + present participle + time reference)
Is used to show an action that began in the past and continues up until the present time.
